Tempel der Morgenröte

Der wohl bekannteste Tempel Bangkoks ist der Wat Arun. Der auch Tempel der Morgenröte genannte Wat Arun ist nach Aruna, der indische Gott der Morgenröte benannt.

Der Wat Arun befindet sich auf der Thonburi Seite des Chao Phraya Flusses, unweit des Königspalastes und Wat Pho. Der hohe Prang überragt deutlich die umlegenden Gebäude. Die weiße Farbe der Gebäude ist mit Millionen kleiner bunt glasierten Tonscherben durchsetzt. Daher funkelt Wat Arun im Sonnenlicht in einer einzigartigen Weise.

Der buddhistische Tempel Wat Arun ist die architektonische Darstellung des Berg Meru, der Mittelpunkt der Welt in der buddhistischen Kosmologie.
